Trial Week

During the first week of June, the 2nd year (8th grade) junior high school students had "Trial Week" or in Japanese, "Turaiaru Weeku". During trial week the students go to various businesses and work there for one week. Students work at hospitals, nursery schools, restaurants, grocery stores, department stores, car shops, museums, libraries, hardware stores, city trash pickup, Japan Self-Defense Forces, etc.

I got to visit the students many times. Most of them seemed excited and happy to be working. I think it's a great idea. Ninth grade students in Japan have to start thinking about what they want to study and do with their lives, so they can apply to high school. I don't know what I would have done if I had to figure out my future at age 14 or 15. I'm curious to know what would you have selected at age 14 or 15 - please comment.

Taube -

You were asking what your aspirations were when you were 14!!! After a lot of thought I think you have achieved your number 1 aspiration - to get as far away from your brother Andy as humanly possible!!!!

Love,

I would've gone into Journalism and tried to be a writer. I loved writing and was in AP English and liked to write reports and speeches. Luckily for me, if that had been the case, I'd probably be perfectly happy today.
